Abstract: The purpose of this study is to analyze existing school spaces, space composition in regions,
and Korea‐Japan school complex projects in terms of changes in education policies and processes
related to school openings and synthesis, and to propose a plan to improve school space composition.
The scope of this study emphasized the role of community spaces in school facilities after the 7 th
curriculum and analyzed subsequent changes in domestic curriculum and policies by using a
domestic case. This study looked at the changes in school facilities and regional connectivity. In
addition, it analyzed the space composition and program status of school facilities compared to the
cases in Kwandong, Japan, to find improvement directions applicable to school facilities in Korea.
