Abstract: This study aims to derive implications for the vitalization of the small‐scale redevelopment
projects through research on the public support systems in France. We studied the Residential
Environment Improvement Project (OPHA), the New State Urban Regeneration Project (N‐PURU),
and the Old Town Housing Redevelopment Project (PNRQAD) to help to establishing domestic
redevelopment policies in Korea. The findings of our study are as follow: First, housing
redevelopment projects in France are carried out in a way that preserves and develops the identity
and history of the region through remodeling to preserve cultural heritage instead of demolition.
Second, the government led the project, emphasized the involvement of their residents, and
differentiates the support of management and financial institutions according to the nature of the
project. Third, they focused on prediction and preparation for future changes, such as population and
infrastructure. Forth, social, historical, environmental, and economic aspects are syntagmatically
taken into consideration. The implication of these results is significant at the present as Korea
enhances the improvement of the small‐scale redevelopment support.
