Apart from that, regeneration in Kampung Batik Laweyan also provoked the betterment of the
human settlement within the area, as Doxiadis’ principles of ekistics play into action when mankind
optimizes its man‐made environment, they would also optimize the condition of Laweyan’s
environment[10]. Such attempts can be seen through the improvement of public facilities, i.e. providing
comfortable benches in strategic places (Fig.5a), abundance in shade and visual greenery, enrichment
of alleyways (Fig.5b) through strong visualizations and attractive storefronts that slow people down to
take a look inside. Furthermore, “shops attract shops” [11](Fig.5c) so Laweyan does not need to worry
about its diversity of commercial function as other businesses will seek chances to place their product
among the popular local culture.

4. Discussion
The extent of this paper only goes as far as an initial observation based on literature studies and
comparison of a case study in Seogye‐Dong, South Korea towards a precedent of a similar condition in
Kampung Laweyan, Indonesia. The main subject of this research is how Home‐Based Enterprises can
act as a catalyst towards urban regeneration because of its compact mix of activities: production, living
and commercial in one space to develop a circular urban economy at a smaller and closed chain. In both
case studies their areas already have production housings concentrated on textiles. Observing
Indonesia’s case in converting production housings to its own textile Home‐Based enterprises
demonstrates how this factor allows the area of Kampung Laweyan in Indonesia to increase in value
and betterment of the human settlement as a whole. Therefore, it is assumed that Kampung Laweyan’s
