Jixiang Housing Complex is located on the Jixiang 2 nd Road, Dadong District, Shenyang, China.
There were only industrial facilities and single‐floor residences around the Jixiang Housing
Complex before 2000 (Figure 3‐a); since the 2000s, the surrounding single‐floor residences have been
redeveloped into housing complexes. There was no reconstruction, but there were some renovations to
Jixiang Housing Complexʹs roads, public facilities, building exteriors, and personal living
environments.
Thus, the housing complex was divided into ‘Area A’ without renovations since 1985 and ‘Area B’
with renovations for roads, public facilities and building façades between 1985 and 1999 (Figure 3‐c).
Therefore, ‘Area A’ will be the main study object because of the preservation of the original exterior
space.
