Living condition of Tangxia urban village (bedroom) 3.3 Xiancun urban village Xiancun village has had its population since 20 years ago swell from two thousand residents to more than fifty thousand residents today[5](p. 38). The demolition of the original urban village has been underway for years; it was due to be erased entirely and become a new social housing community by the year 2010 (to fall in line with the Asian Games). However, in 2019, the demolition process is still ongoing (Figure 17). The erasure of the old Xiancun suffered numerous delays because the original tenants wanted better compensation for the loss of their land. Figure 17. Ariel view of Xiancun (Google Earth) In 2009, Andersson visited Xiancun and summarised the following phenomenon in Xiancun at the time. Firstly, greenery surrounded the urban village, and as a result it seemed from outwards appearances that traces of the original Xiancun had been preserved and integrated into the modern city. 189 ZEMCH 2019 International Conference l Seoul, Korea
