Abstract: The focus of Koreaʹs urban planning strategy has shifted from redevelopment and
reconstruction to urban regeneration based on the Urban Regeneration of New Deal. During the
process of regeneration, it is urgent to provide temporary rental housing for small block units of old
residential areas. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose directions of improvement for the
expansion of supporting housing in urban regeneration activation areas. To this end, we first
examined the current state of urban regeneration in Korea and explained the necessity and
appropriateness of alternative research for aging residential areas. Second, the types of supporting
houses that can be applied were derived amid changes in various types of housing within the domestic
system. Third, basic modules and program combination directions of youth rental housing and shared
housing were presented. Through this process, this study proposed a direction of expanding support
housing in old‐age residential areas.
