Abstract: High‐strength reinforcement steel offers diverse benefits to the reinforced concrete
structures, including more efficient use of high‐performance concrete, reduction of reinforcing bar,
and saving materials. This paper investigates the confinement behavior of reinforced concrete
columns using high strength materials, subjected to cyclic lateral and a constant axial load. Tests were
performed on columns with different transverse reinforcement configuration and strength. the
experimental results showed that, the ductility and energy dissipation capacity were increased when
spiral type transverse reinforcement was used. Increasing yield strength of transverse reinforcement
also improved the performance of members.
