solar cells (50%) had 3 more patterns, including a vertical type, horizontal type and grid type to analyze
openness with 6 patterns in total. Additionally, the designed patterns were applied to the modeled
transparent PV soundproof panel. Then, they were compared and analyzed assuming 3‐column
installation at the upper section with the highest solar radiation.

3.2 Openness Analysis and Power Performance Simulation
Solar cells were applied to the transparent soundproof walls chosen for the study to predict
openness considering the installation conditions of transparent soundproof PV walls. Then, 3D
modeling was implemented with Sketch Up. The transparent soundproof PV walls were installed in
the southwest direction and its appearance at 14:00 when the sun’s altitude is highest was
photographed. Variables applied for openness measurement include the ratio of solar cell installation
(100%, 75%, 50% and 25%), solar cell (50%) arrangement pattern (vertical, horizontal and grid types)
and viewpoint (at the pedestrian’s view and occupant’s view (living on the 1 st floor)), and modeling
was performed respectively.
Furthermore, Solar Pro was adopted to measure power performances of the transparent
soundproof PV panels. Upon analysis of the power performance, no weather data of Chungju existed.
Thus, the weather data of Cheongju neighboring Chungju were applied for analysis. The power
performance was measured from 7:00AM to 4:00PM when the performance of soundproof PV walls is
observed on simulations, and its analysis depending on the ratio of solar cell installation (100%, 75%,
50% and 25%) was conducted. The ratio of power saving was evaluated based on the power
performance of transparent soundproof PV walls installed in 3 columns and power consumption of P
apartment in Chungju from January to December.
