2.2 Previous Studies
Previous researches related to the contents of this study are as follows. Kim, S. M. et al. literarily
analyzed the economic effects of PV power generation using domestic road soundproof walls 2) .
Analyzing the effects of installing the PV module in road soundproof walls in the whole nation by using
the existing business case of PV system, the use‐by date for 25 years & more showed high economic
feasibility of distribution. Ahn, H. S. et al. suggested the research direction for soundproof wall by
comparatively analyzing domestic and foreign researches related to soundproof walls, technical trend,
and installation cases 3) . The results of the study suggested the necessity of the multipurpose function
soundproof walls like PV walls. At this time, the efficiency of power generation could be lowered by
dust, noise and vibration from roads, and relevant researches are suggested. Lee, S. J. et al. analyzed
preceding researches, patents, and domestic or foreign cases of PV soundproof walls 4) . As the results of
the study, pointing out the limitations of the patented technology without considering conditions of
construction, the construction and production methods of transparent or non‐transparent PV
soundproof panels were suggested. Jeong, C. H. et al. conducted the numerical analysis to analyze the
solar radiation energy dosage in accordance with the angle of railroad PV soundproof walls 5) . As results,
solar radiation energy appears in accordance with the angle between direction vector of the sun and
vertical vector of soundproof wall, and the intensity of sunlight of the time. It suggested the necessity
to have researches on the optimum angle of soundproof wall in accordance with region and season.
Cho, J. C. analyzed PV cases in infrastructures and then drew obstacle factors of PV vitalization 5) . He
also suggested vitalizing PV systems using idle sites of infrastructures. For examples, the expressway
or railroad soundproof walls are suggested the ideal PV installation sites.
3. Design and Performance Analysis
3.1 Soundproof PV Design
For the study, the reflective, transparent soundproof walls installed at P apartment complex in
Chungju‐si were chosen for modeling. A soundproof wall is 10m high and the walls stretch to the
southwest (260m). A soundproof wall consists of 10 soundproof panels and 2 soundproof panels
located in the lower section that is affected less by sunlight was replaced with concrete. And, solar cells
were mounted on the remaining soundproof panels. Here, a soundproof panel was designed to be of
the following size: 1960(mm) in height and 1000(mm) in thickness.

The number of solar cells that can be installed to the transparent soundproof PV panels is 72 at
most. Based on the defined number of solar cells, the simulation was designed with different number
of solar cells as follows: 54 (75% installation), 36(50%) and 18(25%). Among the panels, the one with 36
