Day four, Design guideline development; Day four brought together the vast array of ideas from
each group into a comprehensive and coherent initial proposal, including 3D modelling, energy
environmental simulation and mass customization. The presence of tutors was also provided as a way
to enhance group performance. The importance of previous knowledge and the new passed
information was key for decision making. In addition, the new acquired conceptual and simulation
skills also have collaborated adding to the use of Autodesk Revit, Design Builder, Adobe Photoshop,
amongst others.
Day five, Design Outputs; These are presented as images of the workshop results in Figure 4,
showing the core idea of each group.

In a coherent approach regarding the temporary function of post‐disaster dwellings, all proposals
consider movable and transportable solutions, as housing systems allowing quick delivering and
mounting. The main materials are timber, steel and industrial processes, focussing on living
improvements and not only in surviving. Groups (b), (c), (d), and (e) designs are based on prefabricated
modules, measured to fit onto a truck to be delivered to any accessible place in the aftermath. According
to Torres Di Gregorio & Pereira, (2017), to allow inhabitants participation into the design stages of a
project gives it legitimacy and improves levels of awareness of the affected group [14], nevertheless,
generally the capabilities of users are not recognized within the design process, and their possible
inputs are neglected, not reaching satisfactory levels of participation [16]. Being the latter recognized
by the workshop groups, they have stated the need of proper participation of the affected population
not only within stages of design, but also at the construction of their future homes and communities.
Another issue of relevance was the need for Customizing each unit, in order to make good use of
resources through time, allowing future additions or changes. Therefore, adaptability was expressed
as a main strategy of design. The sense of property and involvement was though crucial for the sense
