Abstract
PARENTS FOR CHILDREN- WHEN PARENTS BECOME ACTORS
This paper showcases a project started by preschool teachers from the Vrbik kindergarten, realized through cooperation with parents of one educational group. The objective of the project named Parents for children was to enable parents to contribute to the quality of the educational process in an interesting and creative way, and to enable creating positive attitudes amongst children towards theater and the art of storytelling in general. In the process, real miracles happened regarding teacher-parent and parent-parent cooperation, and children benefited in multiple ways through this project. As a result, three plays for children were created and played by parents, and moderated by teachers. Three groups had a task to choose a text for dramatization, casting, scenography and costumes, and to produce promotional posters and invitations for the show. The joint effort had multiple benefits because each of the plays produced a strong sense of pride of parental involvement amongst children, and also as an inspiration to create their own stories through free play. Some songs and parts of the plays were present in children’ s memory even months later as they recreated them over and over again. Through this kind of cooperation, parents and teachers become true partners in a child’ s upbringing, and it also lays the foundation for theater to become a part of a child’ s life. Keywords: children’ s theater plays, cooperation, drama pedagogy, kindergarten, theater for children
