Piranha Fishing!

GRACE LILLY

BROOKLYN BOND

Canopy Walkway

We headed off to Acts Lodge for a day and

walked on the canopy walkway to watch the

sunset and then got up super early to watch the sunrise the next morning.

The canopy walkway is a tree top walkway bridge held up by netting, ropes, wood and cable cords that are connected to the trees with 14 platforms. The highest point from the ground of the Canopy Walkway is 118 ft. To prevent the Canopy from moving side to side, we walked across it in groups of two to three and evenly spaced out, depending on how long the bridge actually was. Once at the top of canopy, we looked out onto the endless view of treetops and the color green! We had no idea that there was that many shades of green in the world! The sounds were also amazing, although not very loud, if you sat in silence (we did Espacio), the simple sounds of the jungle made this the most calming and peaceful place on this earth!

On our forth day we set out to go catch some piranhas

in the Amazon River. As we waited with our poles (basic stick, fishing line, hook and raw meat) in the water, we didn't seem to have much luck. Even though we didn't end up catching anything that day, our connection with each other and the river's beautiful nature grew. Our group's motivation to not give up had us out again the next day to give it another shot. We got up bright and early before the sunrise in hopes for some good luck. We were determined to break Mr. Rossi’s record of 15 piranhas caught in one day. However, Ms. Mazure ended up being the only winner that morning. Being out on the water with the sun beating down on us had to be one of the most beautiful scenes we got to experience on this journey. Nature is a beautiful thing! As our dreams of breaking the fishing record did not come true, our dreams of seeing the true beauty of this world around us sure did!
