RENUPERU
Ethnobotanical
Garden
The shaman is a healer specializing in natural Amazon medicine for curing the sick, doing healing rituals and energy clearing. When we first arrived at ReNuPeRu Ethnobotanical Garden, we were greeted by the Shaman named Guillermo, who was very welcoming and spiritual. He showed us plants and medicines that shamans use to cure the sick and heal others. The medicines they use are natural and come from plants and trees within the Amazon Rainforest.
COOKING A
JUNGLE MEAL
When I heard we were going to be cooking grubs and different ethnic foods I was not very open-minded. I personally am a very picky eater and prefer to avoid exploring foods out of my normal food groups. We started off by simply chopping vegetables with the ladies. Although the women tended to giggle about our limited skills, they were still very kind. When it was time to put live grubs on a stick, I was absolutely grossed out, they were still moving as we put a hole through their bodies and I personally did not enjoy it.
WE PARTICIPATED IN A NEGATIVITY ENERGY CLEARING CEREMONY WHICH WAS VERY SPIRITUAL AND GAVE US A SENSE OF TOTAL PEACE.

Seeing the other girls enjoy cooking with the Dexi, Linda, and Delphina and experience new things was definitely worth it.
Although there was a language barrier between the ASH girls and the women teaching us how to cook, we bonded over the little things and they tended to remind me of my family. When I was little I used to cook with my grandma often and the kindness of these women were very similar to how my family treats each other. They were very kind and welcoming to everyone which added to our very special experience and gave us a lasting impression of what it means to be in a community.
