The experience of Z started weeks before the flight to Iquitos, Peru with several movie nights, (Lost City of Z, Medicine Man, and the Maijuna documentary). Themes in the films brought on discussions that carried on throughout the experience. This experience included the opportunity to work with two nonprofit organizations to help us see what this region of the world is like. The students experienced uncomfortable moments both physically and emotionally as they were challenged to find ways to impact the world they live in for the better.
The purpose of this experience was to expand ourselves in three different elements - mystical, ethical and ecological. These are defined as:
Mystical dimension - that leads us to seek the depths of the mystery and interiority, to give depth and meaning to life;
Ethical dimension - leads students to recognize the sacredness in others and seek to be the face of God's mercy in the world;
Ecological dimension - leads students to recognize the sanctity of the Earth and the fostering of living simply;
Or put more simply Mystical: the relationship to self, ethical: the relationship to others and Ecological: the relationship to the earth.

"This entire experience was nothing short of remarkable! Watching the sun rise over the rainforest on the canopy walkway made me feel like I could reach up and touch heaven. This place, and the people I met during my time here, will always hold a special place in my heart."

“I have never experienced something so vivid and life-giving as I have experienced in the Amazon. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity, it has changed me for the better”
