We were thrilled to have partnered with the Adelaide Fringe and the City of Adelaide Council in creating and launching our Women’ s Safety Mural in the city( which you can find in James Place!) The launch was attended by VIPs and community members, and MCd by comedian Adrienne Truscott. This mural highlights that street harassment and women’ s safety is everyone’ s business, and we all have a role in creating safer community spaces. about how they will‘ Rise Up’. We heard from YWCA Adelaide member Daniella Colicchio who had just returned from the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York. We were also proud to award the 2017 Great Ydeas Grants to the following worthy recipients:
Victoria Laughton and Katherine McLachlan – supported to develop Criminology Communication Services, a website to promote the work of female researchers and practitioners in criminal justice to better advise criminal justice policy and practice particularly on issues impacting women and girls.
This year we hosted our Round the World Breakfast at the gorgeous Mama Jambo café, to celebrate World YWCA Day which falls on April 24th. With the theme‘ Rise Up! Support and Invest in Young Women’ s Rights’, our YWCA Adelaide members and friends gathered over a delicious breakfast, and shared a message
Heidi Hetz – supported on her leadership journey to attend and present her PhD thesis on refugees and asylum speakers at the Australian Sociological Association conference in Perth November 2017.
