ABORIGINAL WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP PROGRAM The Aboriginal Women’s Leadership Program continues to grow, strengthening engagement and supporting Aboriginal women on their leadership journeys across South Australia. The program has engaged over 50 Aboriginal women over the past year. To celebrate, YWCA Adelaide held a Community Celebration Event to showcase the work of the AWLP. The event included inspiring Aboriginal women sharing their leadership journeys, celebrating the AWLP and acknowledging and recognising the attributes of Aboriginal women in leadership roles past, present and future. This year we have also established an Aboriginal Women’s Advisory Group, designed to be a ‘driving advisor’ to the program coordinator to ensure the program is relevant and moving with cultural change in the contemporary world. Having women from both urban and regional areas is important, showing others that we are working as a ‘team of leaders’ and not working separately to achieve a common goal. 16 AWLP coordinator Lisa Warner: ‘I am humbled and honoured to be able to work closely with Aboriginal women and to continue to move forward in the leadership space that reflects our cultural beliefs and values’ AWLP participant comments: ‘Great empowering opportunity as a young Aboriginal woman, Good networking opportunity’ ‘The chance to connect with strong Aboriginal women from the community’ ‘The opportunities for group interaction without judgement and fantastic leadership and confidence building activities’ ‘The program provides an excellent opportunity for young Aboriginal women to learn about leadership and consider their own self and future.’
