In the past , Rabbi Greenglass ( from Montreal ) would always shake the Rebbe ’ s hand . When he came to the Rebbe recently , the Rebbe smiled and said , “ I won ’ t give you Sholom Aleichem ( i . e . with a handshake ) as I know you will not respond . “ ( The reason being that since the Rebbe was now his Rebbe , Rabbi Greenglass , out of respect , would not shake the Rebbe ’ s hand .)
Rabbi Sholom Ber Gordon related that he went into the Rebbe with his children and the Rebbe stretched out his hand to one of them to give him a Sholom Aleichem . The child was embarrassed and did not return the greeting , to which the Rebbe said “ Oy Gevalt ! He too won ’ t give me his hand .”

ADAR 5710

FRIDAY , ROSH CHODESH ADAR 5710 :
Today , the Rebbe wrote his first public letter and sent it to all of Anash . In the letter he wrote : “ At present it is very difficult to write regarding the Histalkus ... and who is there to comfort us . What we know is that it is incumbent upon everyone to create light .” The Rebbe explained at length the tremendous responsibility that rests upon us all , especially due to the present situation .
