The First Year

FOREWORD

This booklet is entitled To Live And To Learn. It endeavors to teach us how to live with the Rebbe and to learn from his ways. It shows us how the Rebbe conducted himself after the Histalkus of the Frierdiker Rebbe on Yud Shevat 5710.
The booklet also includes the Rebbe ' s letter to Chassidim outlining the correct conduct and Minhahgim for Yud Shevat, and a summary of all the Rebbe ' s Horo ' os( directives) regarding Yud Shevat, between the years 5748-5752( 1988- 1992).
The Rebbe had a multifaceted relationship with the Frierdiker Rebbe. He was a son-in-law; he worked hand in hand with the Frierdiker Rebbe in running the Mosdos of Lubavitch. Most of all, he was truly a devout Chossid in the fullest sense of the word.
With this in mind, we can assume how painful the Histalkus of the Frierdiker Rebbe was for the Rebbe. Yet we see that the Rebbe maintained his composure throughout the difficult year following the Histalkus of the Frierdiker Rebbe. The Rebbe ' s conduct was an example to the Chassidim who were confronted with the problem of surviving that difficult period. The Rebbe gave constant encouragement, teaching that no matter where a Chossid is, in whatever situation, he is always bound to the Rebbe. The Rebbe continues to lead and guide us.
