To Live and To Learn

Boruch Hashem Rosh Chodesh Shevat, 5711 Brooklyn, N. Y.
To Anash, students of Tomchei Temimim and those who are Mekushar or are related to my revered fatherin-law the saintly Rebbe, of blessed memory:
Hashem bless you all.
Greeting and blessing!
In reply to the many questions that have been asked about a detailed schedule for the Tenth of Shevat, the Yahrzeit of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, I would suggest the following:
1. On the Shabbos before the Yahrzeit everybody should attempt to have an Aliyah to the Torah.
2. If there are not enough Aliyos, the Torah should be read a few times in different rooms. However, do not add to the number of Aliyos at each reading.
3. The Maftir should be the most respected person, as decided by the majority; or by lots.
4. Choose someone to lead the Davening on the day of the Yarhzeit. It is proper to divide the honor, choosing one person to Daven Maariv, a second to Daven Shacharis and a third- Mincha. In this way a bigger number of Anash will have the honor.
5. Light a Yarhzeit candle that will burn throughout the twenty-four hours of the day. If possible, the candle should be of beeswax.
