Folklore Museum of Thessaloniki
The Folklore and Ethnological Museum of Macedonia and Thrace is a museum that was founded in 1970 in Thessaloniki took the place from Folklore Museum of Northern Greece that was found by the Macedonian Educational Brotherhood.
The collections of the museum currently reach 20.000 objects and are related to productive activities, agriculture, livestock, fishing, but also traditional techniques such as weaving, sewing, embroidery, metalworking, woodworking and pottery. the museum, through a collaboration with the Academic Community, the artistic world and the local community( donors, external collaborators, cultural associations, volunteers), communicates with the public by organizing periodical exhibitions, educational programs, publications, workshops, musical and theatrical activities.
The Folklore and Ethnological Museum of Macedonia and Thrace is a permanent non-profit entity, under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture.
FEMMT aims to familiarize people and especially the young children with traditional culture, to raise awareness of the important monuments of the newer cultural heritage, to preserve collective memory and to understand the past, connecting it to today.
The Museum ' s activities include the fields of research, museology and advisory supervision:
• Promoting the scientific research and study( ethnological-ethnographic) of the modern civilization in Macedonia and Thrace, in cooperation with other institutions of Greece and abroad.
• Saving and preserving the evidence of this culture and communicating with the results of research in any way( exhibitions, publications, tours, educational programs, events, etc.)
• Exercise of advisory supervision in museums and collections in Northern Greece and the whole country.
