Impoverished ghettos saw many black youths without purpose or education. It’s understandable that so many youths saw the appeal of the Black Panthers. Black youths lacked a sense of youth culture as they didn’t have a school environment in which to develop with those of a similar age. The BBP gave them a purpose, a role in society which the white establishment denied them.

The organisation in political youth culture is demonstrated by ‘Panther Pads’, community hubs in which party members protected each other.
