Pharmaceuticals and natural products contain a variety of heterocyclic moieties. Modern methodologies have limitations such as usage of metal catalysts or large number of steps, resulting in a low yield. The MCRs become the area of interest of many researchers due to its simplicity yet efficient outcome in the synthesis of a complex molecule. In this article, arylglyoaxals, 1,3-cyclicdicarbonyls and azulene were utilized in one-pot manner producing a novel azulene derivatives with a good yield in mild conditions.
