Thy lips they taste like sunshine, so I colored them with coal
And thy stomach it is empty so I filled it with my soul
Thy tears, they stopped coming, so with my voice I shook each bone,
“You are alone, you are alone, darling you’re alone.”
One morn you disappeared without a warning of any kind
I searched for quite a time but, my darling, you I could not find
So alone I sat and the wind sang to me in a taunting moan:
“You are alone, you are alone, darling you’re alone.”
I walked abroad for years, searching for my love
Dressed in black, behind man and child, fitting like a glove
But then, one night, I heard a song the wind had not blown,
“You are alone, you are alone, darling you’re alone.”
I climbed out right next to you and looked out at the sky
I placed my hand upon your back and spoke a soft goodbye
I gave a gentle push, but it looked as if you were thrown
I took a breath, for now I knew you would never be alone.

I followed the voice through a building, with bottles on its wall
I climbed up a steep set of stairs, to find the source of this call
And then I saw you standing there, and your eyes finally shown
You are alone, you are alone, darling you’re alone.
It seems that I appeared at first on a mid-summer day
And I whispered words of comfort that scared the birds away
And I tried to help but from my smile slipped a hidden tone:
“You are alone, you are alone, darling you’re alone.”
