knocked out in the second round in 2006. Fowler went
on to make two appearances in the Walker Cup, in
2007 and 2009, finishing with a total win/loss record
of 7 to 1. It was between those years, in 2008, when
Fowler made his first impression on main stream golf
fans, by making the cut at the US Open.
However, it was 2009, which was the real ‘breakthrough’
year for Fowler, as far as his professional career is
concerned. Fowler played a number of PGA Tour
events, including the Shriners Hospitals for Children
Open and Frys.com Open, performing very well and
gained his 2010 tour card via qualifying school.
2010 was a big year for American and European golf,
with the Ryder Cup up for grabs. At the start of the
season, Fowler’s name wasn’t being mentioned in
the same breath as the Ryder Cup but two runner-up
finishes in PGA Tour events, led the in-form Fowler to
be selected as a captains pick for the event at Celtic
Manor. Fowler became the youngest US Ryder Cup
player of all time and although much of the event was a
learning curve, Fowler birdied the last four holes of his
match against Edoardo Molinari, to seal a halve.
