A t the time of writing, Rickie Fowler is officially the fourth best golfer in the world. It’s the American’s best ever ranking since he has been playing the sport, yet many on-lookers believe there is still much more to come from the Californian. allowing him to play golf as and when he pleased with the greatest coaches out there. Instead, his parents worked hard, in order to give him the opportunity to play sports and the hope he would become a professional golfer and never have to get ‘a real job’. Born in Murrieta, California, Rickie Fowler gives off the impression he’s a man who has had it easy throughout his life and has enjoyed his time on the planet without a care. However, a quick glance at Fowler’s recent family history, shows a grandfather of Japanese heritage, who was dragged off to the internment camp during the second world war. Fowler soon learned of his family history and believes this instilled a determination inside him and a respect for his own and other people’s lives. Having struck up a deal with the local practice range, Fowler’s dad arranged for Rickie to hit free balls and before long, a young Fowler was playing golf for money, all be it small amounts. When Fowler won, he would spend his winnings on new equipment, always aiming to reach the next level, something which is evident in his game today.
