ANNA WHITELEYMEETS KRISSTOFFER BROBERG The end of 2015 saw a career highlight for Sweden’s Kristoffer Broberg, who claimed his maiden European tour victory in china at the BMW Masters. Recently on golfing world, I walked a hole with him in Kuala Lumpur during the Eurasia Cup week, to find out what life is like in the winner’s circle. A nna: Kris, this is the first time we’ve met you on golfing world so let’s rewind a couple of years. You absolutely stormed through the challenge tour in 2012, four wins that year propelling you onto the European tour. What was it like having that much success so early on in your professional career? Kristoffer: I played really good in the Nordic league - had a good season and won a few times in the league. So my confidence was pretty high and then I got an invite to the Finnish challenge - and I won that event. Then I went to Norway, I’m familiar to Norway and then I won there. I’d played that course a lot of times on the Nordic league so, it was pretty cool. Anna: to win three tournaments in four weeks is pretty unheard of. How much confidence did that give you? It must have made you think, this winning business isn’t so hard! I got a lot of confidence but the main tour is a different level. The golf courses are so much tougher. The courses I won on were pretty short – a lot of wedges. I was pretty hot with my wedges and the putter was really hot for those few weeks and months. So then moving over to the European tour, how much expectation did you feel to win in your first year? Because you were so emotional. How much did that mean to you and how did it feel sinking that putt? It was expectation that I’ve always got, I want to win every week. It’s pretty tough out there, you cannot win every week because the players are pretty good but, you can have a good week. It means a lot. You know you work so hard for that win and I’m just so happy for my family who support me all my life and me just, yeah very pleased to win there. I’ve got no words to say I’m just so happy to win. And before you got that win at the end of last year in china which was just terrific, did it get to the point where you were putting so much pressure on yourself to earn it? Yeah because the week before I went to china, I didn’t want to go. I was home and after turkey I just wanted to be home and there was no expectation at all - just go to china and find my putter. The short game was amazing that week and here we are now. Do you almost think that was the difference, the fact that you didn’t have any expectation? I think so, because every week Jon my caddie says you need to think different ways, you cannot win every week, you need to relax a bit. When you were in the playoff with Patrick Reed what was going through your mind at that point? I’d won before in a play off, and he hit it to the right, he started on the tee and I thought here’s my chance if I hit a good drive I’ve got a really good advantage because he’s got a really tough shot from there. He hit a fat second shot in the trap and then I hit a perfect number with my 9 iron… and yeah!
