What does that daily job consist of for you?
There is a routine of attending a certain course, I’ll decide
what the current weakness in the game is and then that
sets our “working week”, the aim is to obviously eliminate
those errors so the hours have to be applied to those
issues. Repetition of practice is probably the worst thing
you can do with a long term plan like this, I have to make
sure things are varied so the processes do not become
stale.
As a golfer that previously had no experience
in coaching how are you deciding what needs
to be fixed, are you working with a Pro?
I see my Pro twice a month, that’s at the most, coaching
in America is expensive, you can pay up to $100 for a 30
minute lesson, so I have to be careful where I spend my
funds. Most coaches I have spoken to take the approach
of asking me where my weaknesses are then working
on fixing them, so I really study my stats and use those
learnings to shape my training. For example if I look at five
rounds of data and see that getting “up and down” is the
issue and causing me to drop shots, then I know I have to
apply my time to that area in order to improve.
That’s the one thing I would implore to any golfer,
understand your game. Get a stat tracking system, whether
it’s writing things on your score card, using a smartphone
scoring app or a device on your clubs it WILL help you
improve your game. Don’t just go to the range and swing a
club, find your weakness and dedicated time to that.
Dan is clearly a passionate and driven individual, he’s taken
an alien concept and applied it not only to golf but to his
everyday life. We hope to turn on the TV in 2019 and see
Dan competing but until then you can count down the
hours with Dan and keep track of his progress at www.
thedanplan.com.
If you would like to help Dan with his journey you donate
on his page and you will also find a range of The Dan Plan
products that you can purchase to help him reach 10,000
hours.
