Has the time out made you realise that there are other opportunities around golf or are you now even hungrier to get back to the Tour? Once the wrist and tendons are fixed, what’s next? Are there areas of your game that you need to work on to get back to your best? There’s been a couple of good things to come out of the injury. I’m spending more time with the family, people always see the glamorous side of the game on TV but we spend a lot of time away from family and it’s been great to have that time back. I wasn’t as fit as I should have been before the break, during the time away I’ve been doing 16-18 hours in the gym every week! Previously there was a few flaws in my swing but I think the big step up in my physicality will fuel improvement across all areas of my game. I feel really strong over the ball, which breeds confidence in my game. It’s also quite odd, I feel like it’s almost my first time on the Tour but I have experience to go in with. I’ve massively got my hunger back for the game. It’s not like I have lost my card and I’m working my way back and still playing golf, I literally haven’t hit a ball for 5 months so it feels like a brand new challenge. How long will it be before we see you back? Well I need to apply for a medical exemption if that gets granted I’m aiming to be teeing it up again in 7 weeks at the Leopard Creek. You’re an established tour player with multiple wins. Now that the injury is put behind you what’s the next target for you, do you aim for a certain position in the OWGR, a place on the Ryder Cup team or even a win at the Majors. What’s next season’s objective? Top 50 in the world is where I want to be, that’s my main aim… and a win, or two… I’m not being greedy though! 13 | YOURCADDY MAG - ISSUE 05
