UUMMANNAQ GREENLAND
Qaasuitsup, Greenland
Uummannaq is actually the home of the World Ice Golf
Championships, yes it’s a thing. The rules are pretty much the
same as your standard game of golf, except you the holes are a
little shorter, the cups are larger, and everything is frozen. We’re
not sure how many days a year it’s open as the green keepers
don’t live on site, there isn’t a club house either!
CAMP BONIFAS
Between North & South Korea
The most dangerous course on the planet. This single-hole course
lies near a military base between the North and South Korean
borders. It’s a 192 yard par-3 so not a hugely difficult hole but we
advise you take a provisional if you go anywhere but the green,
it’s surrounded on three sides by minefields.
MERAPI GOLF COURSE
Yogyakarta Special Region, Indonesia
THE OPAL FIELDS GOLF CLUB
South Australia, Australia
This famous 18-hole par-72 course is one big sand trap, no
no outrages green fees to keep the course in good condition!
The grassless fairways create a lot of roll yet the oiled sand
greens create a surprisingly smooth putt. Maybe not the most
scenic course in the world but certainly a different experience!
You wouldn’t think that a non-contact sport like golf could be
dangerous, well it can be if you play a round at the base of
an active volcano! Smoke can be seen emerging from Mount
Merapi three hundred plus days a year. Smaller eruptions happen
approximately every two to three years, and larger ones about
10 to 15 years. With eruptions happening in 2006 & 2010, we
won’t be visiting very soon.
