THE 2015 MASTERS
HAS THE POTENTIAL
TO BE ONE OF THE
GREATEST OF ALL TIME.
THE NEW GUYS
At 18 months younger than Rickie Fowler, Brooks Koepka claimed his first
PGA Tour win in February of 2015, with a fantastic finish at the Phoenix Open.
Having turned pro in 2012, the American has had a great start to the year and if
Koepka can make it through to Sunday and still be in contention, he has shown
the ability to finish strongly and win a big event. This experience and skill cannot
be under estimated at an event like The Masters, where final round collapses
have cost players in the past. Koepka’s length off the tee will be a huge asset
at Augusta and it may come down to his ability to tame the notoriously tricky
greens that will decide how much of a challenge he can mount.
In addition to McIlroy, Rose and Garcia, fellow Ryder Cup winner, Victor
Dubuisson will have his sights set on a first major victory at the 2015. The
Frenchman came very close to a hole-in-one at the par-3 6th hole last year and
will be counting on his superb short game to propel him up the leader board
and a fight for 1st place.
Dubuisson has just one European Tour title to his name and is yet to make it
beyond the cut at the Masters. Having said that, 2014 was Dubuisson’s first
participation in the event and he will be stronger and wiser this time around as a
result. As previously mentioned, having the ability to get up and down is key to
a good round at Augusta and that aspect of Dubuisson’s game is not in doubt.
The quality of the Frenchman’s escape shots at the Accenture Match Play was
incredible and if Dubuisson can bring that, coupled with solid driving, the 2014
Ryder Cup winner can play himself in to contention.
