Cara
Robinson
Most of you will know Cara Robinson from her insightful
“walking the hole” interviews on Sky Sports Golfing World TV
where she has quizzed the world’s top players and athletes. We
caught up with Cara and asked her a few of our own questions
before she headed across the pond to co host NBC’s famous
Morning Drive television show.
him at his home in Arkansas), which was incredible but not as
funny as suddenly becoming Lee Westwood’s caddy during the
Pro-Am at last year’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
I was happily going about a typical ‘Walk the Course’ on Golfing
World and giving Westwood’s caddie, Billy Foster, some stick about
his yardages, to suddenly find the bib had been put over my head
and the bag thrust in my direction! So off we went, and Lee made
sure he asked for everything obscure from his bag... I of course had
no idea where anything was!
HOW DID YOU GET IN TO TV PRESENTING AND
ESPECIALLY INTO GOLF?
started out as a runner and worked my way up! It was all I ever
wanted to do but I chose to gain some production experience
first and move up that way. I did everything from making tea, to
being a Production Assistant, Researcher and then Producing. As
a result, I’ve got a good knowledge of how the whole production
team works which can be really helpful. As for golf, it’s been a
family hobby forever! My cousin was a PGA professional, my
Dad’s business is golf holidays and I grew up walking the fairways
watching them compete in various competitions. So I always had a
good understanding of the game, and having decided I wanted to
work in sport, I knew that golf would be the perfect place for me.

WHAT WAS YOUR BEST INTERVIEW FROM 2014?
t has to be walking the course with Rory McIlroy for Golfing
World! Two days after he was part of the winning European
Ryder Cup team at Gleneagles, I spent some time with him on The
Old Course at St Andrews during one of his practice rounds ahead
of the Dunhill Links Championship. Not only was he particularly
generous with his time but whenever you talk to Rory, one thing
always strikes you: his attitude - or lack of it. What an example he
sets as the World Number One of our sport; he’s down to earth,
very aware of his roots and determined to change as little as he has
to around him despite his growing fame. You can watch the full
interview on youtube!

WHO WAS THE FUNNIEST GOLFER YOU HAVE
INTERVIEWED?

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE EVENT IN 2014?
ndoubtedly the Ryder Cup. I had never been to one before
and was lucky enough to have inside the ropes access all
week. It’s a very different event for us media because there is far
less access to the players than usual - everything is done as a
team as you can imagine. But to experience the atmosphere on
the 1st tee on Friday morning... I don’t think I’ll ever forget it.
U
WHO DO YOU THINK WILL WIN THIS YEAR’S
MAJORS?
hope Rory wins The Masters because it would be amazing for
the sport to see him achieve the Career Grand Slam at the age
of 25. There will be a lot of pressure on him that week though. If
not, I’d back Jordan Spieth, we all know he has good form around
Augusta. As for the others, Tiger doesn’t look Major-ready yet, so
I’m going to go for Henrik Stenson, Patrick Reed and a man that
maybe some people would overlook... Victor Dubuisson!
