OTHER FESTIVALS
It takes more than one giant month of festivals to
become ‘the Festival City’ – Edinburgh hosts them
almost year-round, attracting over four million
visitors to more than a dozen events.

With dazzling fireworks,
live music, a sell-out
concert in the gardens and
more than 80,000 revellers,
Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is
the biggest New Year street
party in the world.
Hogmanay rings in the new year all over
Scotland with a bang, and a very large street
party in Edinburgh. In March and April there’s
the International Science Festival, followed by
the Imaginate Children’s Festival in May. At
the end of June it’s time for the Film Festival,
and the Jazz & Blues Festival follows a month
later. Towards the end of the year there’s the
Storytelling Festival in October and the Winter
Festivals, which feature Edinburgh’s famous
Christmas Markets.
Even when the city isn’t in full festival swing,
there is still loads to do. Have a look at the
calendar on page 28-29 for just some of
what’s on year-round.
