Your Spiritual Practice March 2015 | Page 10

In his bestselling book, Buddha’s Brain, Rick Hanson says, “Every time you say a positive affirmation, every time you engage in positive self-talk, every time you sift positive feelings and views into painful, limiting states of mind – you build new neural structures. Over time, the accumulating impact of this positive material will, synapse by synapse, change your brain in positive, life-affirming ways."

How can you make your affirmations more powerful and productive? Remember this little tidbit:

Things do not become true because we affirm them. We affirm them because they are Truth!

Take a look at your affirmations. Are they:

• Stated in the present tense (i.e., I am ...; )?

• Positive, focusing on what you want rather than what you do not

want? (i.e., I am filled with health -- instead of I am no longer sick.)

• Grounded in Truth? (The most powerful affirmations affirm a spiritual

Truth rather than focus on a material want. For example, instead of

"I have money to pay my mortgage" you might say, "I claim Divine

Abundance, as money flows to me easily and effortlessly."

3 Tips to Journal So It Makes a Difference

Journaling is one of the most powerful techniques we can recommend to amp up the power of your time spent in spiritual practice! Here are three great tips to help make your journaling meaningful:

#1: Use a notebook or journal that "speaks" to you. There are tons of places to purchase inexpensive journals -- or you can opt to design your own at a site like cafepress.com or vistaprints.com. It is important that the look and feel of your journal inspire you.

#2: Commit to write in your journal after every dedicated spiritual practice experience. You will be amazed at how this act of writing unveils deeper insights and clarifies ideas.

#3: Revisit your journals often. It is extremely powerful to look back at journal entries from months or years past. You will identify common themes, as== well as see opportunities to celebrate growth.

"The pages lead us out of despair and into undreamed of solutions."
