Your Server Rack Buying Guide Jul. 2014 | Page 2

Get Up To Speed – Know What You Need It’s very important to know what to look for when selecting a server rack frame for your computer hardware. It must be the proper fit for both your equipment and your environment. Incongruous enclosures pose dangerous risks to your equipment, your data and your business. To ensure you choose the right server racks, Gaw Technology has composed seven crucial considerations to keep in mind: Quantity Of Units Rack units, like cabinets and shelves, cannot be added once a server rack has been fabricated, so knowing the quantity of rack units you need before you purchase is absolutely key. Also, keep future expansion in mind. Internal Dimensions Rack unit size depends on how you want to mount the racks and the equipment that will be housed in the server racks. If additional rack mounted systems and server rack accessories are needed, such as environmental monitoring, battery backup and/or remote power management, you may require extra front and rear cabinet space. This will ensure these extra accessories can be mounted comfortably, both vertically and horizontally. Use internal dimensions as a guide to assess the size and amount of equipment you can house in the enclosure. • Internal height: Measure from the highest point of any side rail to the bottom of the framework. • Internal depth: Measure from the insides of both front and rear doors. • Internal width: Measure from one side panel to the other. You may request additional space to be furnished during manufacturing to allow for side, rear and front-mounted equipment. This supplemental compartment space is always a good idea because it provides room for ventilation systems, power cords and cable management mechanisms. 670 Deer Road, Unit A n Cherry Hill, NJ 08034 n 877.429.7225 n www.gawtechnology.net
