ACADEMIC UPDATES
UPDATE FROM

Dr . Michael Clusserath Dean , College of Chiropractic

The College of Chiropractic continues to make progress on implementation of the Strategic Plan initiative of World Class Academics . The curriculum improvement that includes transitioning current courses to an online format will begin with the implementation of two online courses in the 2022 Fall Quarter and another two in the 2023 Winter Quarter . The courses have been developed with the expertise of Dr . Karen Garcia , our course and curriculum designer , and Dr . Leslie King , Associate Dean of Instruction . This will begin to allow students to work in clinic , classrooms and labs without having to rush between clinic and class . They will be able to more efficiently schedule clinic at times that coincide with patients that they are assigned by their faculty clinicians . The online courses will have weekly presentations , learning activities and assessments in a format that is very user-friendly and allows students to maintain close contact with their instructors . In addition , by the end of 2023 Summer Quarter , the 14-quarter sequencing of the entire re-designed curriculum will be complete . Faculty will begin the work of creating courses with appropriate topic organization and sequencing that allows students to effectively progress in their understanding and skills .
The clinic transformation is also undergoing a revision with student interns able to be assigned to specific patients that they recruit to the clinic . They will now have four hours of assigned time in the clinic rather than six hours to have more flexibility to schedule with assigned patients whenever the patient is able to schedule their visits . The patient visit requirements for student interns will increase in the Fall and Winter Quarters to help student interns develop their skills and confidence in adjusting earlier so that they will be more prepared for their PEAK ( externship ) experience in the 13th and 14th quarters .
There are numerous upgrades to our technology , as two classrooms are now utilizing technology to easily allow instructors to be virtual while lecturing . Other classrooms are receiving these technology upgrades as well . The renovations to the Dr . Guy F . Riekeman , D . C . Center for Chiropractic Education ( RCCE ) include new floors and fresh paint . The on-campus LIFE Chiropractic Center clinic is undergoing a roof replacement and HVAC improvements after a storm targeted the building earlier in the year . The Campus Center for Health and Optimum Performance ( CC-HOP ; Student Clinic ) is also going through upgrades with a new floor and paint .
The College of Chiropractic faculty and staff recently welcomed the 2022 Fall Quarter class , which was the largest at Life University in over 10 years .
