FRIENDS OF LIFE
DR . PATRICK LOWE

You ’ ve Got a Friend in Me .

Dr . Patrick Lowe is a perfect example of why Life University always says that it ’ s about our alumni and FRIENDS , not only our alumni . As a 1997 Cleveland College of Chiropractic graduate , Dr . Patrick Lowe isn ’ t an alumnus of Life U , but you ’ d never know it by his dedication , commitment and unbridled passion for the things going on at the campus in Marietta , Georgia just down the street from the Big Chicken . These reasons and more are why he became the first recipient of the LIFEforce Impact Award this year at LIFE Vision Extravaganza / Fall CElebration .
“ About two , two and a half years ago , I went and did a talk for students in the business club to see how we could help them out ,” noted Dr . Lowe on his introduction to getting involved with Life U . “ There were three doctors on the panel when we did that talk . It was very fun . We stayed in contact with people , and I had a podcast at the time for students about how to be successful in
Chiropractic .”
Then , 18 months ago , the state of Kentucky , where Dr . Patrick Lowe practices in Louisville , passed a new law that allowed interns to be able to perform adjustments . This then allowed Dr . Lowe to take PEAK interns from Life U for the first time . Life U ’ s PEAK program is designed to allow senior interns to complete their clinic requirements under the direction of an off-campus doctor .
“ We went down there for a Career Fair and invited a bunch of people we already knew to dinner , and this lady said , ‘ You ’ re now signed up as a PEAK doctor , but have you ever looked into being a LIFEforce doctor ?’ I said , ‘ No . Tell me about that .’ She invited me to a LIFEforce Weekend , and I thought ‘ This just makes sense .’ One of our goals is to help more doctors be successful in practice . That starts with mentoring , whether they intern with us or just hang out and share ideas with us — I think we need a lot more highly successful chiropractors . That ’ s one of the reasons we do the things we do .”
Another reason for Dr . Lowe ’ s quickness to jump right in , full steam ahead , was the community of people he found in LIFEforce that had similar goals as his .
“ We got to meet these really cool people who had a similar vision for Chiropractic — a lifeline of people who are really excited about being chiropractors and aren ’ t afraid to say , ‘ I ’ m a chiropractor ” to the world and are passionate about what we can do and who we can help ,” explained Dr . Lowe . “ We found likeminded , passionate , excited chiropractors who were just like us , and so I invited people I know who are just like us to come join and be fed by this excitement , energy and passion that ’ s there at Life U and is just incredible to see and is a really good fit .”
Soon after getting very involved with LIFEforce , Dr . Lowe decided to also join the Life University President ’ s Circle and give back to Life U in order to keep the energy that he was seeing growing into the future . And he didn ’ t stop there , he also got others to join the group as well .
“ I don ’ t even call it recruiting ,” noted Dr . Lowe . “ I just find something I ’ m real excited about , and I want to bring other people to it who are likeminded that I know . These are my friends who are like me , and they want to help students , they want to grow Chiropractic in their areas , and they just see this great opportunity to be part of something that is so much bigger than each of us . So that ’ s why I invited them and encouraged them to give back . I don ’ t believe any of us are self-made . I believe that we are all made by opportunities that have been given to us by other people and by the shoulders of giants that we stand on , and it ’ s our responsibility to help other people in the same way that we ’ ve been helped .”
One thing that keeps Dr . Lowe coming back again and again to Life U is his relationships with the students on campus and his love for mentoring the next generation of chiropractors .
“ We visited one time , and not much later after we left , we got this text from a student , and he said , ‘ Thank you so much for coming . I was really thinking about dropping out of school because it is so overwhelming at this point , but hearing your patient stories and hearing your story about the difference Chiropractic has made in your life makes me know it ’ s all worth it .’”
Dr . Lowe is adamant that there ’ s something special about Life University and its ability as an institution to help mold successful chiropractors , and it oftentimes comes down to one key aspect .
“ I think it goes back to love ,” said Dr . Lowe about what sets Life U apart . “ Love is an act . It is acts of service , acts of inclusion , acts of community vision ; that ’ s where it comes from . [ Life U ] has culture built around that , which is at the core of chiropractic philosophy and history , and its vision for the future . It ’ s a whole bunch of actions that make you know you belong there — that help you know that you ’ re on the same path — that help you see the vision of the future and the presence of the past . It ’ s a culture that invites people in and says , ‘ You belong , you are different , you make a difference and your life is important .’ I just think so many people need that . Just seeing the interconnection between the students and how they support each other , work together and encourage each other — it ’ s just really a special place because of the culture that ’ s been built and the framework of chiropractic philosophy and vision that ’ s been going around .”
