Finding Fertile Grounds for Chiropractic in
Mainland China , Costa Rica and Kenya
Life University ’ s Department of Global Initiatives supports the development , establishment and success of Chiropractic and a vitalistic paradigm around the world . Led by Vice President for Global Initiatives Dr . John Downes , this group of pioneers for the chiropractic profession have been hard at work to fulfill both their departmental mission and the overall vision of Life U , which foresees “ a world centered on vitalistic thinking and action .”
Global Initiatives has contributed to tremendous progress and growth for Chiropractic in the countries of China , Costa Rica and Kenya within the last couple of years . Some of the central figures within Global Initiatives share the journeys they ’ ve taken to get to where they are today , along with their hopes for the present and future of the countries in which they are working and are , for many , of natural citizenship .
Mainland China — Dr . Peng Li “ Fresh ” (’ 12 )
Dr . Peng Li , who also goes by the nickname “ Fresh ,” is a Chinese national who graduated from Life [ University ] in 2012 , came back to Mainland China and started working in the [ Life U ] China program since then with Life U ’ s

Department of Global Initiatives and its
VP Dr . Downes . Right now , Dr . Li is the Executive Director of Global Initiatives for China .
“ I ’ ve been working with the Chinese Olympic Committee since 2018 , what we call as preparation for Olympics ,” explained Dr . Li . “ In 2018 , there was a division under the Chinese Olympic Committee called the Chinese Olympic Game Preparation Office . They decided to bring in more international supportive team [ members ] to help the Chinese athletes prepare for Tokyo Olympics in all realms ( strength and conditioning ; PT ; rehab and sports chiropractic ). They actually recruited a bunch of people internationally to China into different sports . At the time , we were in China , and they recognized our previous work there and brought us into this program . They also had a couple individual chiropractors hired from the U . S . and Canada , but only Life University was contracted as an institution . At the beginning , a couple of other doctors and I were stationed with Team China under the Olympic [ Game ] Preparation Office .”
