and hemorrhagic stroke , this study aims to understand what brain-based and performance-based differences are present between the two stroke subtypes . College of Chirorpactic 12th quarter student Ni ’ Amber Harris initiated this study . Based on having first-hand experience of family member ’ s post-stroke journey , Harris came to the realization that resources are lacking for lingering symptoms once patients complete physical therapy and occupational therapy .
Researchers are giving assessments such as a Stroke Impact Scale to measure function in areas like coordination , overall feelings of wellness in different areas of their everyday living and electroencephalography ( EEG ) brain wave activity .
The research team looks forward to learning more about the role of chiropractic care in post-stroke patients and also views this project as an opportunity to educate individuals about chiropractic ’ s role as a treatment modality alongside traditional interventions . Preliminary results are showing that patients are noticing the benefits of chiropractic care and are continuing chiropractic care after their participation in the research study has concluded . The work done thus far has provided an additional resource to individuals who have never received chiropractic care .
A randomized wait-list control trial evaluating the effect of team-based applied clinical neuroscience care on self-reported symptoms of depression and cerebellar function in adults with medication-resistant depression — In collaboration with the NeuroLIFE Institute and University of Georgia , the CCR is researching the role chiropractic Applied Clinical Neuroscience has on individuals diagnosed with depression who have been on medication that is unsuccessful at decreasing depression symptoms . In this study , NeuroLIFE is providing focused and individualized chiropractic Applied Clinical Neuroscience interventions through a team-based perspective that includes researchers , chiropractors , nutritionists and psychologists .
The CCR is working to continue moving Chiropractic beyond a pain and disease-management perspective and further opening eyes to the many benefits that chiropractic care can have among special populations and in the development of optimal health .
Preliminary results have been favorable and show a patient reported decline in symptoms of depression , as well as increased levels of happiness and decreased stress and anxiety . This study is impacting those in the community that suffer from depression by providing an additional modality of treatment ( chiropractic Applied Clinical Neuroscience ) based on improving the overall health and wellness of the individual , far beyond pain management and physical injury .
