College of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies ( CGUS ) Fall 2021

The College of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies ( CGUS ) started the new academic year with 915 students . As CGUS continues to grow enrollment and offer new programs , our full-time faculty has grown as well .
Someone who is not new to Life U is Dr . Cathy Faust ; however , she does have a new appointment after being announced as the next Dean of the College of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies , effective January 3 , 2022 . Dr . Faust is an experienced educator and administrator with more than 23 years of experience at Life University . She has served as a faculty member and Department Chair / Assistant Dean of the Sport Health Science program . As a faculty member , she primarily taught at the graduate level in the area of physiological testing and cardiovascular physiology . Dr . Faust also has experience in accreditation and curriculum design ; has served on many key college and university committees ; has a strong record of community volunteer work ; has given several invited presentations ; and has conducted several research projects .
CGUS has also approved a new format for minors that includes 25 quarter credit hours . Students will be able to earn a minor within their bachelor ’ s degree utilizing the elective category . We are excited about this opportunity for students to explore areas of interest outside their major or to explore more specifically an area of study within the major .
As part of our on-going support of the SLP graduation requirement for undergraduate students , Dr . Stephanie Wakefield , faculty member in the Division of Natural Science , has led several projects to assist with the stewardship and clean-up of Rottenwood Creek that runs through campus . Students , faculty and staff have ventured out to clean up the creek , participated in a “ private pull ” initiative to remove invasive plant species from the creek and hiking trails on campus , as well as partnering with the Cobb County Watershed Stewardship Program and the Sierra Club to continue the cleanup of Rottenwood Creek . We truly appreciate the efforts of Dr . Wakefield , our students , faculty and staff in helping to maintain a natural environment , free from debris and invasive plant life , for Rottenwood Creek .

College of Chiropractic ( COC ) Fall 2021

The College of Chiropractic continues to thrive during the start of the new academic year . For the 2021 Fall Quarter , the COC admitted more than 200 new students into the first quarter cohort . To accommodate for the increase in enrollment , the COC has also hired several new employees to provide exceptional chiropractic education to our students .
This was also the first quarter since the beginning of COVID that everyone was able to be back on campus ; it is wonderful to have the campus , buildings and classrooms filled with students and faculty .
Of special note , after a national search and the great work of a diverse institutional search committee , Dr . Michael Clusserath has been announced as the next Dean of the College of Chiropractic , effective January 3 , 2022 . Dr . Clusserath has 22 years of higher education experience and arrived at Life U in 2012 . While at Life U , he has served as associate dean in managing the COC curriculum , supervised the academic divisions , assisted with the completion project task group , coordinated the remediation and retest project and served on the assessment council to ensure compliance with accreditation meta-competency outcomes requirements ; he most recently served as the Director of Clinics . His experience also includes service on numerous college and university committees .
We also would like to recognize Dr . Samuel Demons who retired at the end of the 2021 Summer Quarter after teaching at Life U for more than 40 years . He served in many capacities while working at the institution as the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and the Division Chair of Basic Sciences , to name a couple . His presence and educational contributions will truly be missed . It will be hard to replace the knowledge and expertise that Dr . Demons brought to the classroom .
