Women ’ s Advisory Council

In January 2021 , eight accomplished women agreed to form the Life University Women ’ s Advisory Council . The group represents a range of professions , including Chiropractic , technology , engineering and business . By applying their diverse , yet complementary leadership , skills and knowledge , the Council seeks to address opportunities and issues of concern among women students , faculty and staff .
Their aims include forging external partnerships and structuring programs to elevate the University ’ s mission to empower students with education , skills and values to foster a world centered on vitalistic thinking and action . To implement their vision , they plan to share the Life University story with the communities where they live and work .
To find out what inspired them to create and contribute to the Women ’ s Advisory Council , we spoke with the Council members . The following is what they shared .
Charlotte M . Farmer , Ph . D .
Dr . Farmer is director for the Center of Programs and Technology Operations for the MITRE Corporation in McLean , Virginia .
“ I dedicate myself to mission outcomes that make the world healthy , safer and more secure . I gravitate to activities that require collaboration to get the job done . I believe a group ’ s strength comes from the diversity of its members .”
“ The Council comprises luminaries and visionaries committed to transforming the experience of women in higher education . We work in different industries , but each of us strives to scale and accelerate the development of women . Our collective skills augment wellness and healing within Life University and the communities it serves by nurturing the next generation of trustworthy leaders .”
Dr . Judith L . Hatch , D . C .
Dr . Hatch graduated from Life Chiropractic College in 1989 and has operated her clinic , Holistic Healthcare in Albany , LLC , since 2002 .
“ I chose to collaborate with these brilliant women to further the cause of Chiropractic . Together , we will create a plan to educate the public , implement it and encourage students and community members to utilize their knowledge to ‘ reach back ’ to grab someone and take them forward .”
Leslie King , D . C .
Dr . King is a Life University alumna and associate dean of instruction in the university ’ s College of Chiropractic .
“ The Council is a collection of brilliant leaders and change-makers , each inspired by the challenge of helping Life University accomplish great things . Personally , I expect to utilize my optimism , integrity and relationship-building skills to further our mission . I live my life and make decisions based on optimism .”
Debi A . Miller , Ed . D .
Dr . Miller is director of communications for Cone Health , a North Carolina nonprofit network of healthcare providers .
“ Experience has taught me that when women work together , we get things done . I ’ m inspired to work alongside this unique group of women leaders from different industries , different places and varying perspectives .”
“ I will use my communications knowledge and skills to influence internal and external audiences impacted by Life University ’ s vision and goals . This includes creating and implementing a strategic plan for the Council outlining how we can support the University to play a role in the lives of those they educate and heal , today and in the future .”
Karmyn Norwood
Ms . Norwood is deputy vice president for the Sensors and Global
Sustainment Line of Business and vice president of Rotary Wing & Ground Programs at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control Company in Orlando , Florida .
“ When offered the opportunity to serve on the Council , I jumped at it ! The Council and its members align with my values and focus to empower students and advance women through mentorship . As advisors with experience in various businesses and industries , my colleagues and I bring a diverse set of ideas to help drive Life University forward by investing in mentoring and leveraging our business skills and knowledge so that students can become world changers .”
Tralonda Triplett , Ph . D ., MPH
Dr . Triplett is co-owner and director of operations for the Institute for Successful Leadership , Inc .
“ By working together , we will illustrate how multiple talents are necessary to initiate and sustain changes that women need . Whether improving professional skills or enhancing gender-based approaches to maintain health and wellbeing across the lifespan , my participation acknowledges that women are called on to use multiple competencies to overcome daily challenges .”
“ The Council will also address systemic and institutionalized issues that women face and impact many aspects of our lives . As a Black woman , I have experienced external biases and stereotypes that attempted to impact my academic and professional progress . The Council will discuss these issues , as well as pay structure inequities , and ascertain ways women can collaborate to share improved life outcomes .”
