Construction crews make progress at Crestline site
Evergreen Public Schools will dedicate the new building
in late August, just before students return to school
Crestline recovers: The staff of Crestline Elementary School took their first tour of the construction happening on
their new building.
T
he staff of Crestline
Elementary School recently
took a tour of the construction
site, on the one-year anniversary of
the fire that destroyed their school.
It was the first time many of them
had been behind the construction
fences to see the inside of the
school as construction crews race
to complete it in time for the start
of the 2014-2015 school year.
“The project is progressing
well, in spite of minor challenges
due to weather,” said Evergreen
Public Schools Facilities Director
Susan Steinbrenner. “We anticipate
substantial completion at the end
of July 2014, thanks to all our
partners who have helped fasttrack the project.”
The original building opened
in 1973, measuring 43,995 square
feet; the new building will be
60,630 square feet. The district,
with the help of LSW Architects,
used an existing floor plan (similar
to Endeavour Elementary School)
for the new school, helping cut
construction costs and design time.
Bobbi Hite, Principal of
Crestline Elementary School,
said the students and staff are
excited about next year but remain
focused on finishing the current
school year at their temporary
location. “We really enjoyed our
tour of the Crestline building and
are so excited about moving in
this summer! We can’t wait to
get back into our community and
open our beautiful new school.
Thank you to everyone for being
so supportive through this entire
process.”

New school board member selected to represent District 2
Rob Perkins, a long-time resident and volunteer, will replace Joan Skelton
W
hen Joan Skelton resigned her
position as the School Board’s
District 2 representative, she left some
very big shoes to fill following 18 years
of service. The remaining four board
members knew they had their work cut
out for them in finding a replacement.
Fortunately, there were 12 dedicated
residents all interested in filling the
position.
“The selection process was really
interesting,” said School Board President,
Victoria Bradford. “We had really qualified
applicants.”
After narrowing the field from 12 to
five, the School Board took a public vote
at their regular meeting on February 25,
unanimously choosing Rob Perkins to
represent District 2.
“Rob has been a volunteer for a number
of years, participating on instructional
materials committees and ad-hoc budget
committees,” said Bradford. “He knows a
lot about the school district and the areas
that fall under the purview of the Board.”
Perkins, the Chief Technology Officer
for Finite Solutions, is a 1987 graduate of
Mountain View High School. He and his
wife, Kim, have five children who have
graduated, or are currently enrolled in,
Evergreen schools. He will be officially
sworn in at the Board’s March 11 meeting
and will serve out the remainder of the
term that ends in November 2015. After
that, he’ll have to choose to run for reelection.
