While they ate fruit kabobs and yogurt, Superintendent Deeder asked what the students liked about school and what they didn’t like. The students had a few questions, too. “My mom is a teacher at Frontier (Middle School) and earlier this year, she had to work but we had a snow day,” said one student. “How do you decide when to cancel school?” (That was February 11, when three of the district’s schools, including Silver Star, were unable to open.) What the students learned was how the Superintendent and transportation department make decisions when the weather is bad. Needless to say, they were interested to know how much goes into the decision to delay or cancel. “I enjoy talking with kids and getting their take on what is happening at their school,” said Deeder. “We make decisions based on what’s important for our students and I like taking time to talk with them.” Superintendent Deeder will breakfast with students at Covington Middle School in May and at Mountain View High School in June.
