Rotterdam ( Annual Report 2022 )

2022 was an eventful year for YoungShip Rotterdam with various highs and lows . In 2021 we hosted ShipCon in Rotterdam as a hybrid event which we had planned as a platform for further development . And today it may seem like a long time ago , but following the event the Netherlands went back into lockdown .
The post covid event environment in the Netherlands brought on significant challenges in the form of increased prices for events ( location fees , F & B , and other related event costs ), as well as a highly competitive setting . Despite these challenges we have been able to re-energize the YoungShip Rotterdam community in various ways . In addition to our earlier members joining events , a new wave of members came alive in the autumn increasing our numbers , and rounding out events with rather large numbers . The events have mostly been aimed at networking and socializing , with this being one of the key feedback areas amongst our members , on what they wanted from YoungShip Rotterdam .
One of the main highlights for the year was the YoungShip Rotterdam Summer BBQ event , which brought together students , Shipbrokers , Port operators , Commodity Traders , charterers , and vessel agents together in the heart of the city . We also had the pleasure of welcoming board members from norway and belgium to the event , which highlighted YoungShip Rotterdam ’ s dedication to working across organizations . This was also showcased by our continued participation in the Young Maritime Board of Rotterdam , advising the municipality on matters related to youth in the maritime sector .
As we continue to push forwards , we have also seen changes in the team . We saw the departure of board members Abraham Varughese and Matthew Wittemeier , who were key components to delivering ShipCon in Rotterdam . We thank them for the contributions they made to our organization . We have also brought on two new board members , Alexandros Ntoupis , as well as Willeke Ruijtenberg who have already shown to be great additions .
