Monash ’ s Young Scholars Program is a short-term internship that offers an exciting opportunity to engage in research and community outreach activities before you begin your Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine studies in February .
This experience will help you explore your passion in medicine , develop a broad suite of study skills , and give you a unique head start in your academic and personal development .
WHAT YOU ’ LL DO
Under the guidance and close mentorship of leading researchers , you ’ ll be involved in major research projects in areas such as :
• neuroscience
• cancer
• public health
• non-communicable diseases
• infectious diseases
• medical education
• clinical medicine .
WHERE YOU ’ LL BE
Monash researchers are addressing global challenges from several locations across the country . You may be placed at any of the following locations :
• Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences at Monash University Malaysia
• Brain Research Institute Monash Sunway at Monash University Malaysia
• Clinical School Johor Bahru
• South East Asia Community Observatory in Segamat , Johor .
ELIGIBILITY Applications are open to Malaysian students who meet the requirements . To qualify for a limited placement in the Young Scholars Program , you must :
• have been offered a full or conditional offer for the Medicine program
• have proven leadership achievements and / or have made a significant contribution to your school or community
• write a 500-word essay on your objectives in joining this program and how it will contribute towards your personal growth
• be willing to work from Monday to Friday , 9am to 5pm .

DEVELOP USEFUL SKILLS
Build critical thinking skills , understand scientific methods , and develop literature searching skills that will be invaluable to you in your future medical studies .
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Be on the ground with our partner agencies and non-governmental organisations to measure research impact and connect with local and wider communities . This is experiential learning at its best .
MONTHLY STIPEND
Receive a monthly stipend to help cover your living expenses .
