Now, let’s say you already took the test. What if you’re not an assertive type? Don’t worry. Not everybody is assertive, but you can become one.
First, you have to show confidence. This goes from your way of speaking, to your way of acting. Keep your chin up, you reyes open, and avoid putting your hands on your pockets –this show an attitude of doubt. Passive- . Try to make eye contact and to be sure of what you’re saying. Try to not be easy to read by avoiding moving your hands, feet or legs. But what when you’re nervous? You can still be confident while nervous!
Second, Speak slowly and clearly. This may be annoying for some people that dislike talking slowly, but it will surely help you. Always use a clear and calm voice. This is very important so people begin to trust you. If people aren’t paying attention, say “excuse me” politely; this will show your manners. As well, avoid saying “um” and “like”. This will only show you’re not so sure about what you’re saying.
Third, is to take responsability of your own problems. Remember that the world won’t change unless you make it change. As well, don’t expect people to solve your problems for you; this might make them worse. And if you’re scared of your problems, remember to feel confident about yourself!
This are just some few tips to be assertive. While you follow them, you might find other ways, as well, to achieve your goal of being assertive. Remember it’s all about knowing yourself, and knowing that you shoulddefend your points of view, without using agression.
