Adapting a Curriculum to Support Children with Motor Disabilities

Inclusive education is a powerful way to foster the development of children with different abilities( Roldán et al. 2021). Research has shown that children with and without disabilities who participate in inclusive, high-quality early learning programs enjoy larger gains in cognitive, communicative, and social and emotional domains than those in self-contained settings( NASEM 2024). This includes children with diverse physical abilities. Understanding their unique needs and adapting the curriculum are essential to ensuring their full engagement in early childhood education settings.
