Guruji, please throw some light on the Sattva Sangha. Does it draw inspiration from the philosophy – Sangham Sharanam Gacchhami taught by Gautama the Buddha? A. Well, the great Buddha, he had 3 things people would commit to – the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha. Buddha means the all knowing one, the all knowing nature of the self. The Vedas tell us - Know that by knowing which everything else is known. One has to be dedicated to that. One has to be dedicated to Dharma without which one cannot think oneself into enlightenment and awareness. If one has to practice Dharma, one has to refine his values. Dharma is not just an empty word, it is evolutionary action. Karma is an action which is not evolutionary, it is just repetitive. “Buddha means the all knowing one, the all knowing nature of the self”. Learning from Anand Visionary Yoga Master Teacher in conversation with Pankaj Jha 08 YOGIC HERALD JAN 2018 Dharma is evolutionary action whereas Sangha means community. Sangha resides in the very essential nature of we human beings as we create connection, we seek each other. After all we are a social species. So it is of paramount importance that we connect with like-minded beings , that we connect with people who are moving in the direction of evolution, who are genuinely interested in growth, in the deeper understanding of life. When we can really connect with that, there is a greater possibility that opens up in loving your weaker moments. Then you can support each other. Also there is an immense value, immense power when a group of people come together with a shared. Anybody who has practiced knows that there is a great charm in practicing with yourself but when you are in a group of people and practicing, there is a great energy that is generated. It happens even at a rock concert or a music concert, when there is a group of people drawing in the same direction, there is a electricity which develops there. So I think, community is of great importance to humanity as a whole and as we evolve, we impact the community and the community can impact the world in a positive manner. Otherwise, in isolation, it can be unnecessarily challenging. That’s why the Sangha is coming from the great inspiration of Gautama.
