“ GET RIGHT OR GET LEFT ” A Community Conversation by : Tatiana M . Denson
We must help play a part in providing real life solutions to the real life problems that plague our community . There have been numerous shootings , and killings that have resulted in injury , and death . If you utilize social media sites like Facebook , Instagram , or Twitter you may notice your news feed has an increase in child memorials and adult violence ; especially in economically impoverished communities . You are tagged in pictures displaying T-Shirts that show messages of R . I . P to mourn those that have been killed as a result of gun violence perhaps before their time . Here is where a community must come in and as President Barack Obama said , “ We must hold our elected officials accountable ”.
We as a community must support and hold our churches , community leaders , activists , teachers , business owners , neighbors , and elders accountable . It can ’ t just be our elected officials we desire to hold responsible for evoking change . There must be a collective effort to actively pursue cures to the ailments of our communities ; until we see a collective improvement in our economic , education , justice , and social systems . I implore us as a community to change the meaning of R . I . P to a more positive meaning like “ Rise in Progress ”
There is no easy solution to our communities ’ problems . We should not stand for election season opportunists who only care about our community when it fits their motives . One thing we can do is to elect leaders who are everyday people , and every day leaders . They should have real life solutions that can benefit all those in a community not just certain “ circles ” of people . Regardless if you live in Tampa , Brandon , St . Petersburg , Lakeland , Miami , New York , or Chicago all of the issues affect us a whole in some form or fashion .
We as a community must create new terms , and conditions , then Rise in Progress ( R . I . P ).
I want to end this community conversation with this … “ What happens if we don ’ t get Right & There is no Civilization Left to carry on what the past generations , & our Mothers have taught us ”? A quote from my mother ….” Life is Tough but we have to be Tougher than Life ”…..
