SPRING IS HERE !

Here are some fresh ingredients to add to your weekly shop and cooking .
Most of us love this time of year when the blossoms come out , skies are blue and we ’ ve finally seen the back of winter . Spring is also a great time for foodies - as we see wonderful , great value produce come into season and we shift from hearty winter warmers to lighter meals and salads .
The change in weather also creates the perfect opportunity to test new ways of cooking and eating veggies at different times of the day . For example , asparagus spears : try steaming them and serving with scrambled eggs in the morning ; chopping them into small pieces for a frittata ; or cooking them on the BBQ for a completely different flavour profile to add to salads or as a side .
Another great example is cauliflower . A full head of cauliflower can sometimes look overwhelming , so start with half .
Cut the florets and steam until tender or roast in the oven with a drizzle of olive oil . You can even try barbecuing smaller pieces and popping them into a salad . I usually buy a full head and use half for salads or as a side with meals , then save the other half ( plus the core and stem ) to make a beautiful cauliflower soup .
Remember , purchasing seasonal produce is a great way to save money and when you buy in season you ’ ll find the flavours are more intense . Take a look below at what ’ s in season right now .
