To help you eat seasonally, nutrition expert Gloria Cabrera
provides her guide to Summer produce.
f you’re anything like me, when you think about
Summer eating you probably think of fruits like
mangoes, peaches and strawberries, and light meals
with lots of salad. Spending time outdoors, at the beach, or
having picnics might also spring to mind.

Summer is a great time to eat seasonally because there’s
such an abundance of produce available.
Last edition, we mentioned the benefits of eating seasonally,
so following on from this information, here’s what’s ‘in’ this
Summer. The great news is, there’s a tremendous variety of
fruit and vegetables to choose from, including:
Fruit
Apricot, avocado, banana, berries
(blackberry, blueberry, boysenberry,
gooseberry, loganberry, mulberry, raspberry,
strawberry), currant, fig, grapes, gravenstein
apple, guava, lemon, lime, lychees, mango,
melons (honeydew, rockmelon, watermelon),
nashi pears, nectarine, passionfruit, pawpaw,
peach, pineapple, plum, rambutan, rhubarb,
tamarillo, tomato, Valencia orange
Vegetables
Asian greans (bok chuy, choy sum),
asparagus, beans, beetroot, broccoli,
cabbage, capsicum, carrot, cauliflower,

Seek out and enjoy recipes that centre around this produce
and have a deliciously healthy and happy Summer. And
even if you require some out-of-season produce from time
to time, buying the bulk of your fruit and vegetables
seasonally will reap some key benefits. For example, you
can save money, the produce tends to be tastier, fresher
and more nutritious, and with such a huge variety of fruit
and vegetables available, the task of eating what’s in season
is likely to be highly enjoyable!
